I am using Thunderbird 78.3.1. I am using IMAP to access my email account from my ISP. I'm noticing that a folder to which I don't want to subscribe keeps appearing in the account's folder list. The name of the folder is INBO^Junk. No matter what I do, I can't get rid of it. When I see it appear, I go into my Account Settings->Synchronization & Storage ->Advanced and uncheck the "Download" checkbox for that folder. With Thunderbird not running, I also go into my Thunderbird profile folder on my hard drive and delete the INBO.sbd directory and the INBO.msf file. Upon relaunching Thunderbird, the INBO.sbd directory reappears, and the INBO.msf file reappears.

Is the INBO structure really necessary? What can I do to permanently get rid of it?

Thanks in advance...Steve

Again, thanks for your quick reply.

Using your suggestion, I unsubscribed the INBO^Junk folder and it disappeared from the list. I'm very pleased to have this problem solved! If the folder reappears (or any other unwanted folder appears), I know now how to fix the issue.

Thanks again. Very helpful!

Who is your mail provider? What's the history behind this folder, that is, has it always been there or is this a new occurence? Is it a subfolder of the INBOX? Some providers may have the Junk/Spam folder as a subfolder of the Inbox. This depends on how they are implementing IMAP on their mail system. Is there a separate, top-level folder for Spam/junk? Have you actually unsubscribed from the folder? The setting you changed and deleting the sbd folder do NOT unsubscribe from that folder.

Thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate it.

My provider is SonicNet, a provider servicing California.

The offending folder appears to be a subfolder of INBOX. See attached screenshot where INBO^Junk appears in the folder pane, underneath and indented from INBOX.

The folder started appearing after I installed version 78.2, although that may be a coincidence.

Based on what you wrote, I'm sure I haven't properly unsubscribed from that folder. Can you point me to the documentation about how to do that?

Thanks...Steve

Right-click your account in the Folder Pane and select Subscribe. The dialog that opens is self explanatory. I noticed that ALL other folders are subfolders of the INBOX too. That's an unusual setup, but not entirely strange.

A client may have created it. Mailspring did that for my Gmail accounts, so I had to delete them via Gmail webmail.
