If nothing is found using quick filter the Thunderbird automatically opens search. Is there any way to prevent it? It is really annoying beacuse I have to close the tab with search and then change parameters for the filter to get the results.

re :If nothing is found using quick filter the Thunderbird automatically opens search. It does not sound like you are using the 'Quick Filter Bar' to perform the search on the selected folder.

Sounds like you are using the Global Search on all accounts and folders. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/global-search

At the top where you enter eg: doris and the tab opened and there are no search results. You do not have to close the tab. The search parameter will still be at the top, so remove eg: doris and type eg: dave and press enter to see full results.

I am indeed using the Quick Filter Bar. I'll give an example. In the Received folder I want to FILTER all emails received from Mozilla. I write "Mozilla" into the Quick Filter Bar (the lower bar that says "Filter these messages"), but from some previous filter only "Subject" parameter is chosen therefore the filter gives no results as "Mozilla" occurs only as a Sender. Normally I would just check "Sender" parameter and get the results I want but before I can do that as soon as the filter showed no results the search for "Mozilla" is automatically performed in automatically opened tab. I have to close this tab and then i can check "Sender" parameter as filter and get the results.

I've set up 68.12.0 Test results.

In Quick Filter Bar - search Deliberately type something that will produce a no results eg: doris Changing the search filter - sender, recipient etc has no effect. Using backspace key repeatedly to remove doris has no adverse effect. Returns view to normal.

Type doris - no results - immediately press 'Enter/Return' key - opens in a tab Type doris - no results - press backspace once - now says dori -no results - press 'Enter/Return' key - opens in tab.

I can only reproduce this issue, if I press the 'Enter/Return' key whilst some text in in the search which produced a null search result.

Whilst this explains how I can reproduce the issue, it does not mean it is correct.

I tested the same as above on version 78.2.1 and could not produce the same issue.

As Thunderbird are still producing separate updates for 68*, I'll put this forward as a bug. But before I do, can you please recheck your actions to see if they agree with my testing. Basically, a null result will open in a new tab, if 'Enter/Return' key is depressed whilst there are some letters in the search parameter.

I need to ask because whilst I can copy what you have done in the video, I do not know if you pressed the 'Enter/Return' key which in my case created that tab. Also what language version are you using. I'm using English British.

Actually, I can now confirm this is correct behaviour. You can see it in the video you created, you select an option of filter and pop up occurs, but it disappears so quick. A drop down message appears on the right side just below where it says 'Sender, Recipient, Subject, Body'. It says 'Continue this search across all folders' 'Press Enter again to continue your search for :doris'

You must be intentionally or otherwise clicking on the 'Enter' key.

In the previous video only letter keys were pressed, not Enter or any other key. I'm using Czech language version of Thunderbird.

But I found out this happens only if the text is written into the Quick Filter Bar fast. When I write the text slowly nothing happens. See video: https://youtu.be/BnBvZikn4IY I'm pressing only letter keys. Sorry for the low quality of the video (and my english).
