Sorry, there is no feature to set up a bookmarks folder in that manner.

Maybe use Tags to achieve this.

Not really. Seems like an "edge case" type feature that wouldn't be of interest to a large number of Firefox users.
Perhaps better as an add-on / extension for Firefox instead, if one is available with that type of feature.

But I have to say that you should consider trying Tags and see if you can adapt them to what you want to do in Firefox.

I have been a Firefox user since Aug 2002, a couple of years before this browser was known a Firefox. And since the Firefox 3.0 version in June 2008, and the arrival of the current "Places" scheme, is has been downhill for the Bookmarks feature - IMO.
Like a hunting dog that doesn't "hunt".
I honestly gave up organizing my bookmarks altogether as of Firefox 3.0. Tags was Mozilla's solution with Places; which I didn't agree with and never used Tags.

IMO, Browsing History is also contained in the places.sqlite file, hence the name "Places", and that sets the stage for Bookmarks not working as you would like.

I haven't given up organizing my bookmarks and now they are customized them to my needs.

I took a look at the places.sqlite database with DB Browser for SQLite.

What I am looking for is a way to create a link to an item of type 2 in the moz-bookmarks table. In other words, I would like a button or link that when clicked opens the desired folder in the bookmarks menu.

Do you think this can be accomplished with an add-on/extension to Foxfire? Can you find out from the Foxfire developers if that it is doable with an add-on?

I am an old time developer, learning web programming using vue.js. If it doable with an add-on I'd like to take a crack at it.

There is all sorts of Mozilla help available for creating your own extensions for Firefox, but I don't keep up with where that info can now be found. So I can't answer either of your questions.

As far as buying an add-on is up to you, but please don't troll this support forum for "takers". Better off taking that to https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxAddons/ IMO.

Hi Alex, extensions can work with bookmark data, which means they can do anything a web page can do with that data, from filtering lists, to autocompleting queries, to finding titles and URLs across folders or within the same folder.

But, unfortunately extensions cannot tell Firefox to display a particular menu, they have to generate the menu themselves.

If you haven't checked what is out there now, you could try the following extension which creates its own Bookmarks Sidebar with folder name searching and other features:

I realize it requires a lot of permissions. Perhaps someone can create a simplified, more purpose-built "folder finder" that suits your needs.
