Why am I getting redirected to wrong site despite autocomplete giving correct url?
This is pretty insane. I have had this problem for a while now but since I've been going to Amazon.ca a bit more frequently lately it's really driving me crazy.
When I type amazon in the address bar, it autocompletes to amazon.ca. Awesome. But when I hit enter, it takes me to amazon.com. Not awesome. This is because amazon.com is showing up in the blue bar under the address bar, and obviously this must take precedence over the address bar. How do I make it stop? I need it to just STOP doing this.
I actually have a video screen capture of this happening but there doesn't seem to be a way to share videos, but the relevant frame is attached. As you can see, the address bar clearly says amazon.ca, but when I hit enter, I'm taken to amazon.com.

That's bizarre! I don't think I've ever seen that.
Is it possible you have a bookmark for Amazon.com with the keyword amazon? To inspect the keywords of a bookmark, right-click it and choose Properties.
A possible counter-measure would be to bookmark https://www.amazon.ca/ and assign it the keyword am so that you can load it just by typing am and pressing Enter.

Thanks, I think that's solved it.
I did have an amazon.com bookmark, but it didn't appear to have any keywords. To be safe I deleted all bookmarks with amazon.com in the url and then added amazon as a keyword to my amazon.ca bookmark.
It still seems like bizarre behaviour to me, regardless of the fact that it's resolved. It seems to me that whatever is in the address bar should always be the most reliable guide to where you're going. A bookmark or keyword should never be able to derail the expected behaviour of going to whatever is in the address bar.
Note that if the mouse pointer is in the drop-down list area when it opens then it is possible that the item under the mouse pointer gets selected automatically if the mouse is moved.

If you look at the screen cap you'll clearly see the cursor is in the address bar.
