After unloading my entire hard drive and reloading it back onto my iMac running OS10.9.5 Firefox did not restore itself as it had been. I tried to uninstall and reload. I get the install window; a box with the Firefox app disk and an arrow pointing to a folder that has a small arrow in the lower left hand corner, which usually, I think indicates an 'alias'. I click on this and Firefox opens. The Firefox icon appears in the doc. I chose the option to keep it in the dock, and close Firefox. Then put the 'upload disk' in the trash. Restart the computer. No more Firefox icon in the dock but a "?" image. I click on this and the install window opens as if this is a new install each time. What to do? Thank you, Victoria

Try to uninstall Firefox (drag icon to trash) and reinstall Firefox

Make sure Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox Disk Image file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

I think you are deleting where that short cut points to. Am not sure about this but think that that is highly possible. You could try and move that holder to a drive and create another short cut to it and stick that where you want.

Myself am not fully understanding this as am a windows person. If that is workable for you please post again.

Hi,

What I am deleting is this: When you download any application on Mac an icon that looks a little like a hard drive appears on the desktop. You double click on that and a window opens with your 'install' folder which you then usually click on and the install happens. When finished you put the desktop icon in the trash as it is no longer needed,

What is different here when the install window opens with the folder, there is a small arrow which usually indicates that it is an 'alias'.

I think that perhaps Firefox was either corrupted when the hard drive had to be re-installed and/or Firefox was not properly uninstalled. Can i totally Uninstall and start from scratch? Thats what I was trying to do but it didn't work.
