Work IT Hitlers have blocked Firefox so we are unable to get online with the browser. The browser runs but appears to be blocked by the firewall. I need to install Password exporter to get all my sites, usernames and passwords off. I have backed up the profiles but not sure how to get the passwords from that. I afraid of overwriting other profiles if I try to install the work profiles on my home PC. Can someone help with advice on how to get the password exporter on the blocked browser please? Many thanks.

Hi

I recommend having a read of this article that will explain what key files in your profile is for.

An alternative approach would be to install the profile in a clean installation of Firefox. You can read more about how to do this here.

I hope this helps.

You can copy the logins.json and key3.db from one profile to another profile to recover passwords stored in the Password Manager.

You can copy files like these to the current Firefox profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups
