Why does the list of folders keep shifting back to the top of the alphabet ?

In the past, I have been able to move a block of emails from my inbox to an already-created folder in the alphabetical list easily. I would simply highlight 10 or 12 emails in my inbox, go the list of files in alpha order on the left and click on one of them, then put my cursor on the block of emails and shift them into the appropriate box. They would move there. No problem. Recently, I cannot do that -- the box list will revert to the top of the list -- i.e., back to A, even if I'm trying to get to W. Even when I try to move only one email at a time to another box, I still have trouble.

This problem seems to have occurred at the same time as another problem. I will be looking for a particular email and will click to show the emails in alpha order by sender. The alpha order will occur, but, when I try to go to a particular email (say, Ann), by the time I start to click to get there, the program has zipped itself down to something else, like Michael. Sometimes it takes me three or four times to get where I want to go. The same thing happens when I am trying to get to a particular date locale. This is maddening!

As I say, both these things seems to have started happening at about the same time, so I feel it's something Mozilla has done differently. Help, please.
