I have an email account, call it [email protected]. On outlook.com, return receipt is turned off. This account is also set up on Thunderbird as IMAP. Thunderbird is set to "Never send return receipt".

I sent test emails from another account requesting RR. When I read these emails using Thunderbird, it sends the return receipt. I repeated the exercise but used outlook.com to read the messages, and it did not send the RR.

The problem is repeatable w/ outlook.com & hotmail. Can't duplicate w/ gmail.

Is there a workaround?

You set Thunderbird to never send a return receipt -- but where did you set it to do that? If you set it in the Preferences dialogue, as a 'global' preference, then be aware that there is also a 'per account' setting in the Account Settings dialogue -- and the latter overrides the former, I believe. So you need to check both locations, if you haven't already done so.

All my Thunderbird accounts are set to use the global return receipt setting. I have verified it. I believe this is a bug with Tbird 45 and/or hotmail
