Hi, I have a new laptop that runs Windows 10. I'm trying to sync it with the old one that runs Windows 8.1. I start sync but nothing happens (no history, no bookmarks, no anything). They both have the newest Firefox installed. I have tried everything I've found on this forum, including e.g. from here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1090681 but nothing seems to work. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox on this new laptop, changed passwords and basically tried it all. What to do now?

Sync doesn't work device to device, there is the Sync server sitting in the middle of the "transaction" that each device connects to.

Changing the Sync Account password automatically deletes whatever data may be on the Sync server. The password is used to create the encryption "key" which is used to encrypt your data as it leaves and re-enters Firefox on your devices. Your data is encrypted as it traverses the internet and while it is sitting on the Sync server. When the account password is changed, the data on the server becomes useless, and the "key" is different and the "blob" of data can't be decrypted any longer.

You'll need to Sync the Win 8.1 device again and then without changing the Sync password re-connect the Win10 device to your Sync account.

Thank you! I thought I had akready done that, but apparently not since trying it now worked. Now all seems to work fine, so thank you.
