"Not Responding" message at start up. SOLVED by creating a new identity & importing the messages from the old to the new.
This only happens on one of my identities, the rest seem to be okay....
When I start this identity, it's really slow & as soon as I click on anything it says "Not Responding"
After awhile (about 10 min.) it will finally do something but, after a couple clicks it does it again.
Windows 8.1, IE 11, newest Thunderbird software

While I appreciate the replies, I was completely abandoned after my last post that with both safe modes running it this identity still did not respond...
I ended up fixing this myself by finding & saving the message folder for this identity, creating a new identity & importing the messages from the old to the new. Then deleting the old identity from the list.

What happens if you start thunderbird i safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Thanks for the reply Wayne,
I tried it in safe mode & it does the same thing
Try to start *Windows* in safe mode with networking enabled.

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode.

Does the problem go away?
