When you format a disk drive, it completely wipes out everything so you can start afresh.

So my questions are: Did you perform a backup of your Thunderbird Profile and save it to an external device before you formatted the disk drive?

Did you use an imap mail account in Thunderbird? If yes, then all your emails should be saved on the server, so install Thunderbird and create an imap mail account to connect to server.
