PC Shuts down and Flash constantly crashes

I have no idea how to fix my current problem which is causing a great annoyance as my computer shuts down multiple times daily. Here’s what I know. Not only does my computer crash but my Flash Player is constantly crashing with Firefox displaying the message “the Adobe flash plug in has crashed”. I have the latest version of the flash plug (16.0.0.305) in installed as well as the latest version of Firefox, (version 36.0). In response to these crashes, I followed whatever info I could to solve the problem with Flash, which included: updating all my drivers, plug ins are up to date, I have no viruses or spyware, and Windows are up to date. I have restarted Firefox in safe mode and the crashes keep happening. When looking at my reliability history in the Action Center, it shows over and over again that the all critical issues are due to “Plugin container for Firefox stopped working” with no solution offered.

What I find interesting is that while I’m working on my machine, Flash crashes but not my machine. The PC seems to shut down on being inactive for a period of half an hour. It also crashes whether I’m using Firefox or not. Also strange was this was happening before I installed and reformatted a hard drive and it’s still happening after a clean Windows 7 Prof install.

I am trying to keep Flash and Firefox on my machine. Help, what can I do to solve this issue. I am at a loss as to what to try next.

I've gone ahead as you both recommended and disabled protected mode in the Flash plugin. It at least explained why I had two "FlashPlayerPlugin_<version>.exe processes running in Windows Task Manager which I was wondering about. So lets' see if that helps any with the crashes.

Well, while I might not see the Flash has crashed message anymore, I am still needing to start up my machine each time the machine remains inactive, and everytime I start up again I see the following message in Firefox:

A script on this page maybe busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

Whether it's related directly to Flash I'm not sure but bottomline, I'm still crashing and so out of ideas at this point. I'm a pretty good trouble shooter but I have no idea why my machine needs to be restarted and goes into resume mode so often during the day.

I am still having this problem. How can I downgrade to an earlier version???? I can't work around this... and until Adobe posts and update that fixes this, I will have to keep it off, but it destroys functions I use a lot.

I hear that everyone has this trouble. What does it take?

Type about:plugins<enter> in the address bar. Now search for the plug-in.

Example; Adobe Acrobat File: nppdf32.dll,nppdf32.dll Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\browser\nppdf32.dll,C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AIR\nppdf32.dll Version: 11.0.9.29 State: Enabled Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.9

There should ONLY be one program for any Abode utility.

There was also an update to flash player on Thursday for version 17, I do not know if if will address this performance issue however its worth a try.

Can always give a new version a try. Wanted to thank FredMcD as one of those things done to Flash corrected flash crashing.

In terms of my computer turning switching off, I resolved it the only way I at this time know how, which is going to my Power Options and turning my sleep to "Never". Seems like on My Dell Studio 540 a hibernation or sleep triggered my computer to shut down or rather I would need to my power button and windows had to resume. So "Never Sleep" is preventing a crash and subsequently no javacript or Flash errors have occurred. The only thing I did not try is to update my BIOS, a bit chicken about that so at this time, I'll leave it be and hope that my computer never sleeping doesn't put too much wear on my PC.

Again, any input is most welcome. Otherwise thanks to you guys for all your assistance.

I never had this problem with Windows 7, but now I have to re-download Flash Player several times a day or my computer freezes and tells me a script is running and/or Flash has crashed. I have Win 8.1. Will this be resolved when I upgrade to Windows 10? It is driving me crazy. Everything is current and nothing seems to help.
