Windows 8.1 and Firefox issues
Bought a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5215. AMD A6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.00 GHz. 4 GB RAM, 63 bit operating system, x62 based processor. 1 TB memory. Came with Windows 8.1 on it. This has been very frustrating.
I THINK Firefox 33.1.1 downloaded. I say "think" because in trying to fix issues, somewhere I saw Firefox - PART, but now I do not know where I saw this.
I just ran a search on "THIS PC" for Firefox and have 2 screens of listings.
One issue: I use yahoo for email. When I click to open a message, I can not scroll down. I have to click IN the message, and then arrow down. The scroll bar on the far right takes up the entire range, so it cannot be moved down.
Second issue: In working on things, I tried moving Firefox to Safe Mode. Now, my first problem is that the instructions to do this say to use the Menu button and the ? button; in fact, all I had to do was click on Help in the menu across the top of the page, and then click on disable add ons. So that took me some time, just to get in to Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, the menu across the top disappeared, so I could not get back IN to help to exit Safe Mode! In Safe Mode, the touchpad was disabled; I had to go get a mouse and connect that to move around. Yes, once I did THAT, and went in to yahoo mail, I could open a message and have a scroll bar on the right to move down the message. I had to reboot to exit Safe Mode.
Then I had to go enable the touch pad.
Now I have no scroll bar when I open an email message in yahoo mail.
Next issue. Firefox is S L O W. I've used it for years on 4 or 5 other computers, never seen it this slow. It is so slow that I keep getting 'NOT RESPONDING' across the top of the page. I do not do anything and eventually the page DOES load. This happens with any site: Facebook, this Support site, craigslist, yahoo mail, any place I go to. I have not found that it is site specific.
Next issue. Periodically the cursor locks up. Nothing I do releases it. Once in a while I wait and it becomes responsive again; other times, I have to reboot.
Next issue: sometimes I have to click once, sometimes I have to double click ON THE SAME BUTTON. This happens when I am in a forum and want to post a reply, as one example. Sometimes one click on the REPLY button do it. Other times, I have to double click. It is not constant ON THE SAME FORUM.
That's what I've got, for now. Any help much appreciated.
