Hi there!

All my book marks & history setting are gone when I did my update to Firefox 31. Tried to restore from the auto bookmark backup but is prompt with "Unable to process the backup file." Tried downloading the Place Maintenance as suggested but doesn't seem to make any difference.

Can't figure out how to deal with changing the profile part as I'm not exactly very tech savvy. Any step by step on how I should go about this?

I did not do any backup, export or migration prior to the update and is at a loss now that all my bookmark are gone. :(

Any advise are greatly appreciated!

Thanks folks!

  1. Click the ≡ Menu Button then click the Power Symbol to exit Firefox.
  2. Navigate to /Applications/Utilities. Open the Terminal application.
  3. In the Terminal application, type the following:
    • /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -p
  4. Press the Return key.
  5. The profile manager should then open. If you have multiple profiles, start Firefox in one of them and check if it contains your old data like bookmarks and history. The following article has more details and screenshots:

Are these the exact steps you took?

  1. Click the Bookmarks button on the navigation toolbar and choose Show All Bookmarks.
  2. In the Library window, click the Import and Backup button.
  3. Click the Restore submenu.
  4. Pick one of the backups from the listing to choose one of the automatic backups from the current profile, or pick Choose File to select a backup file from a different location (like another profile).

Thanks for the advise! After trying out the different suggestions given, this was what I did:

Manage to create a new profile (thanks to Gingerbread Man for pointing me to the right direction!!!), copy out a copy of the bookmarks from the original location and do a restore bookmark for the new profile from the bookmark backup :)

Thanks again for all your advise! Really appreciate it and will dilligently backup my bookmark from now on! :P

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
