Thunderbird gets wrong DNS address

more options

Thunderbird has just begun using an old server address when downloading emails, not my current server address. I have been using the new host with the same name for years. I can connect using Firefox webmail, I can connect using Thunderbird on another computer on my home network. Ping returns the correct DNS address

Here is a log snippet 3568[67dd3c0]: ImapThreadMainLoop entering [this=6dd8800] 0[f0f140]: 6dd8800:virtus.fuber.org:NA:SetupWithUrl: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN 3568[67dd3c0]: 6dd8800:virtus.fuber.org:NA:ProcessCurrentURL: entering 3568[67dd3c0]: 6dd8800:virtus.fuber.org:NA:ProcessCurrentURL:imap://[email protected]:143/select%3E.INBOX: = currentUrl 520[67de400]: ImapThreadMainLoop entering [this=70d7000] 0[f0f140]: 70d7000:mail.macomputer.com.au:NA:SetupWithUrl: clearing IMAP_CONNECTION_IS_OPEN 520[67de400]: 70d7000:mail.macomputer.com.au:NA:ProcessCurrentURL: entering 520[67de400]: 70d7000:mail.macomputer.com.au:NA:ProcessCurrentURL:imap://[email protected]:143/select%3E.INBOX: = currentUrl

Note that virtus.fuber.org is the wrong address and is now not used anywhere in my system. Correct addresses are the macomputer domain names.

This happened overnight - working last Wednesday night broken last Thursday night

We're new to supporting Thunderbird here, so apologies for not knowing the program well.

I don't think this is a DNS problem, since the host name is completely different. Usually a DNS problem would be getting the wrong IP address for a host.

If you do not have any accounts on the old server set up for send/receive, then there's no reason for Thunderbird to be connecting.

I have a guess, based on experience with Microsoft email clients. If you open an old message that you have not read before (or move it out of your Inbox without reading it), and it is set to send a Read Receipt, this can trigger attempts to send the receipt out using the connection on which it was received.

If you have Thunderbird set to never send a read receipt, or to prompt you, then this probably isn't the issue. You could check your receipt setting here:

Tools > Options > Advanced > General
