Different bookmarks in different profiles in same account

I'd like to have, in my one firefox account, a 'private' profile with my private life bookmarks and a 'work' profile with my work life bookmarks. However, this doesn't seem to work. I open firefox with work profile and see my work bookmarks, then I close and reopen with private profile and see my private bookmarks, then I close and reopen again with work profile and now I still see my private bookmarks instead of my work bookmarks. Firefox just unsolicitedly takes the private bookmarks over to the work profile. This can't be how it's supposed to be, right? Because what would be the point of having different profiles? I hope you can help me with this.

To put that another way, the profile is where data is stored. You can have as many different profiles as you like containing different data, and they will all remain distinct. Unless and until: You can optionally connect one or more profiles to a Firefox Account, and use the Sync service to synchronize data between all of the profiles you connect to that account. If you want two profiles to have different data, then they can't both be connected to the same Firefox Account, or you need to modify Sync settings to avoid combining data that you need to keep separate.

Note: there is no limit on the number of Firefox Accounts you can open if you have other email addresses to open them with. So you can mix and match profiles and accounts as needed.

Sync shares all selected data. Not bits and pieces. If you select bookmarks, all bookmarks are shared.

What you could do is to set up a second user profile that only has the data you want to share and use sync on that.

Thanks for your quick response. Yes, I want to sync all bookmarks, not just some. But I'd like to have two separate sets of bookmarks for my two profiles. So when I'm logged in to my account on any device and, upon opening firefox, I choose the work profile, I only see the (synced, up-to-date) set of bookmarks belonging to this profile. I hope it got clearer now. Perhaps your proposition in the second paragraph is even pertinent to this, but I don't understand it.

If you want to share only some bookmarks using sync, that is not possible. All bookmarks will be synced when bookmarks are selected.

OK, so as I understand it, bookmarks are saved on an account, not on a profile, and it's not possible to keep apart different sets of bookmarks. This is sad. Without this possibility, I wonder what's the point of having different profiles.

Bookmarks, and all other data, are stored in the user's profile located in their computer user account folder.

The sync account is used to share selected data with different systems and profiles.
