Gents: I do not want to give my correct phone number for anyone to enter in their database. How can I use Sync w/o giving my true number? 2. I thought I had Sync set up previously but now it always hits me with the 'enter your phone number' which is a dead end for me.

3. I believe when the Support page is asking for my Yahoo email logon (for some reason) that it is linking my Yahoo with this support site instead of allowing me to use my normal logon. Is there a way I can check and be sure that these are not linked, and that I didn't miss some asterisk B.S. somewhere about "you are now giving support.mozilla or whatever was using this, to link my yahoo account?

Thank you!

Firstly, Firefox Sync doesn't require a phone number. It's not something that you are even able to link to your Firefox Account, even if you wanted to. What I assume you are seeing in the "Send Firefox directly to your smartphone and sign in to complete set-up" screen. This just sends the link to download Firefox to you via text message.

You can login at accounts.firefox.com with just your email, assuming you have an account. If not, you can create an account for free, using just your email address.

As for your issue logging into the Firefox support website, they recently added the ability to login with your Firefox Account. This will be the new way to log in because it's easier to merge accounts onto the Firefox Account system. If you have an existing account on here, there is a "continue w/ SUMO account" button below the "Continue with Firefox Accounts" button on the support.mozilla.org login page.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Wesley. However, the "continue w/SUMO" does not allow me to login. Not b/c I'm in error. No matter, the Sync login is there.

My experience may help. The first time I dismissed the tab with the phone number request, it came right back the next time I launch Firefox. I dismissed it again, went to my account settings and there it was again. The second time I launched Firefox the request was gone, my devices are syncing and I can go to my account settings without having to deal with the phone request.

Just give it some time before you jump to the conclusion that its required.

You can close the tab where you are asked to enter a phone number to add another device since this is optional. If you leave the tab open then you might be asked again if this tab is reopened the next time.

I reopened a related bugzilla report on the mobile phone number issue: Bug 1464762 After login, the prompt text to install mobile version is easily misunderstood
