Well,   it took me long enough, but I finally found it:
Mixcloud uses Windows Media Player. And like I said before:   M4A is not supported by Windows Media Player for Windows XP.

Pressing the start does not do anything. But when I clicked on the time toolbar the player starts.

Hi   !
I have absolutely no problems with that site, but from the information I got from their page that says:   'Playback error: why is the player not working ?',   this might be a good idea:
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi, unfortunately both suggestions didn't help. I contaced Mixcloud support but they did not suggested anything, what I could do. It's hard to say, whether Mozilla, Flash player or Mixcloud self causes the problem. I can also say, I've updated Flash player and Mozilla lately, so maybe one of them is the reason of my problem.

Question:   you're running Windows XP 32-bit;   did you download Flash Player 32-bit, and not 64-bit by any chance   ?
Then:   you probably already read this, but just in case you haven't:

It is recognized automatically. I just checked and Adobe suggests 32-bit version. Yes, I've read the article before, which was useless for me.

Bummer   !!!
Like I said before: &nbsp it works just fine for me   (some great music to choose from), and of course I'm using Firefox as my browser. What makes you say:   'Flash Player doesn't work'   ? Do you get some kind of message   ? Stab in the dark:   for that site, have you cookies set as allowed   ?
Just in case:   you can check/set that by clicking on the little cirle with the   'i'   in it, on the left side of the address bar. Then click on   More Information > Permissions and scroll down   (or up as the case may be)   to   'cookies'.

No error message but only an assumption. Cookies are as always allowed. I know, the music there is great, mine is also there ;)

I'm not going to lie to you:  I've run completely out of ideas   (so sorry   !) But hey :   you can hear every bit of music that you love on   YouTube   .......   unless that's not an option for you   (?)
But I totally understand that you want this   'mixcloud'   to work and I can only hope that somebody with better working braincells than mine, will come to your rescue   .......

You ran out of ideas but I have a news. I got answer from Mixcloud support but it's not a good one. The problem is caused due to Firefox update to 50.0, which on Windows XP supports M4A format not anymore. They suggest switching to the other site - the Google Chrome site. Could Mozilla do something so I can use Mozilla until I switch to another OS, like WIndows 7? Or should i download source code and try to do it by myself? Despite I am not familiar with it.

I'm going to do some digging   .....

........  and look what I found:   not   Firefox's   fault   (big sigh of relief)   ! M4A   is not supported by   Windows Media Player for   Windows XP.
See :   https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/kb/316992
Switching to   Windows 7   would be great,   in so many ways,  really.

So do you mean, the music on Mixcloud is being played by my Windows media player not Flash player?

That's too   'techie'   for me;   I can only quote what I just read.
I gathered that Windows Media Player uses Flash Player   (if enabled).
Like I said earlier:   I hope that somebody with better working braincells can fill you in on the details   .......   (sorry   !  .......   ♪♫   )

Can I find the 49.0 version (which would be safer) or outside the mozilla support website?

Right here   (but please, make sure you read it first) :

I will probably stay by Google Chrome at this time. But switching to Windows 7 will probably be the final action, I wil take. And of course back to Firefox again. Thank you for help.

Couldn't let it go just yet   ......
Take a look at this:

And also:

I still think upgrading to   Windows 7   would be your best bet   (I'm on Windows 10 myself)

Are you sure that you have the latest version of Shockwave Flash (that should be 23.0.r0) and Adobe Flash Player, which is 23.0.0.207   (?)
