The new 2014 My Yahoo newspage suddenly started adding popup links to articles as I scroll through news items. How to eliminate?

A week ago when I went to My Yahoo page I started getting popup boxes for every article and stock listing. Never happened before and it's extremely annoying. Can't find a way to stop them and I've checked the box for stopping popup ads (they're not actually ads, just snippets of the headlines and expanded info on individual stocks). Much more info than I want at a glance, so I'm thinking of just forgetting about My Yahoo although I've had it installed/set up for years. I use an iMac OS10.6.8 and Firefox 28.0.

This happens on some webpages that have a script addig links to random parts of the page. IF it is the same where there is an issue where you hover over the link and a pop-up within the page shows up, please scan the computer for malware.

First step is to troubleshoot the add ons and start Firefox in Safe ModeDiagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode and use a mac scanner. The issue is that this also is an add on that some developers will put in the site itself. I do not think Yahoo is doing this though.
