My hosting company offers webmail with smartermail. I check it daily to see if any good email went to spam. The issue happens when the page hasn't finished loading and I click on a link. I get the beach ball of death and I need to force quit Firefox. This doesn't happen with Chrome.

Troubleshooting: 1. I open my webmail on Firefox (SmarterMail) 2. The page looks like it fully loaded, but at the status bar I see some elements are still loading. If at this moment I click on the "Junk Mail" folder, to see all the junk email, then it happens. 3. Firefox hangs and I need to Force Quit.

Hi, Does smartmail use javascript? I see you have it disabled? try to enable it and see if the issue persists. The instructions are below. The only crash issue I am seeing related to smartmail is mentioned here http://smartermail.software.informer.com/ and issues with compatibility https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=844504 If its a script error you can allow the scripts on that page to run in the exceptions list in the preferences. Its odd though, if it crashes you can submit a crash report too to give a better idea if it is that process that is causing it to crash.

However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.

about:config

  1. In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
  2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
  3. In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
  4. Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.

To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.

Add-ons

You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as

  • No-Script (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
  • QuickJava (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
  • SettingSanity (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)

Thank you and I hope this helps!
