How can I play m3u audio stream on Firefox for Aandroid?
The site from which I wish to stream audio is http://wutc.org/ The target of the "Listen Live" link is an m3u file (wutc.m3u). The text inside that m3u file is as follows:
- EXTM3U
- EXTINF:-1,WUTC Public Radio Intro
http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/wutc/local-wutc-869078.mp3
- EXTINF:-1,WUTC Public Radio Stream
http://pubint.ic.llnwd.net/stream/pubint_wutc
The link works fine in the native android internet browser (I have a Samsung Galaxy S 3 from Verizon) but that browser hangs when its audio is interrupted by a phone call. Firefox does not.
The link also works from Firefox on my Windows laptop where Firefox passes the m3u to my audio player which is foobar2000.

This is a bug that is Fixed in Firefox 28.
I'm using Firefox 25.0 on my Android. Checking for updates returns "No updates available. "
Yes that is expected. Version 28 is our Nightly build. It will be ~18 weeks before it is released.
Nightly build? Is it available as a beta release or something?
Not as a beta. For most devices you can get Firefox Nightly at http://nightly.mozilla.org
I installed Firefox Nightly 280a1 and, although I am enjoying the superior interface, I am still having the same not able to stream audio when the link points to an m3u file.
Hm. I'll look at this tomorrow. We fixed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=780379 which was for M3U8 files.
I can now stream live audio from wutc.m3u on both Firefox 25.0 and the latest Nightly. Unfortunately I am unable to say which of these three changes I made are responsible.
1. I installed Adobe Flash (install_flash_player_ics (14).apk) 2. Updated Nightly (28.0a1 2012.11.03) 3. Changed Settings > Display > Plugins in Firefox and Nightly to Tap to Play.
I think that changing the settings did the trick, but am uncertain.
I had this problem with m3u files listening to audio clips on Amazon.com. Firefox would try to open them in Windows Media Player (this doesn't work.) I updated Firefox and ADOBE flash player - still didn't work. ADOBE flash player appeared nowhere in my plug-ins for Firefox.
I noticed in my plug-ins a program called SHOCKWAVE flash player. I enabled this plug-in and now I can play m3u audio clips fine.
I REALLY wish Mozilla would rename this plug-in ADOBE flash player in the plug-ins section of the tools menu. After all, its coming from Adobe.
