Bookmark Icons in Toolbar are Incorrect
Greetings.
I noticed a few nights ago that one of the icons on my bookmark toolbar had changed. The bookmark is for the BBC News homepage and usually shows their red and white BBC icon. However, it now shows the icon for Amazon. Interestingly, the bookmark still works as intended - just the icon is wrong. I tried to find a solution online, however nothing I tried worked.
This evening, I noticed that another icon has changed as well. This time, it is a bookmark for the Steam website that has changed to another website's icon. Obviously, my problem is more of an annoyance - more so due to OCD - but even so, I'm assuming this shouldn't be happening?
I'd hazard a guess that this issue is due to a cache or thumbnail problem? Any help would be appreciated.

FYI: I have tried removing the offending bookmarks and re-adding them but to no avail. I have tried several Firefox Addons but due to 'Legacy' status, they don't work. I have NOT tried to re-install Firefox because I would have to reset everything up. If it comes to that, I'll go back to Chrome instead.
Please see attached image for an example of what I mean regarding the icons.

I just noticed that the image didn't upload to the original post so I have posted it here instead.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
See also:

Try to delete the favicons.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder in case the file is corrupted.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
I have the same problem as well. Please notice the AOL Mail and MCPL in the attached images. One image FF and the other Chrome. I tried the add on you suggested with no effect. I didn't try any of your other suggestions yet. I also tried removing the wrong bookmarks and re adding them with no effect. I've not resorted to resetting FF at this time. Just did not want to go thru the hassle of adding everything back in. I look forward to your comments. Thanks

I've tried both of these suggestions as well as deleting and adding them again and am still having this problem. For me the problem is with two bookmarks: a local device on my network (MOTU 1248) and the Google Calendar page. Neither will save the favicon to the bookmark even though it shows up in the tab bar just fine.
These both make extensive use of asynchronous HTTP requests so maybe that has something to do with.
- UPDATE*
The forums went down just after I posted my question and I've only been able to access them again today. I did see the replies in my email inbox however. Sadly, nothing has helped.
After customizing my Firefox, and moving the bookmarks to a different location, the problem actually resolved itself. I have no idea how or why. I also found that when right-clicking a bookmark on the toolbar and going into it's properties, removing the "name" field completely also temporarily restored the correct icon.
