had outlook on work computer not with company so no outlook trying to set up email on personal laptop and want to import my contacts from my iphone. can this be done?

I am not aware of a direct way, but here is what I did for going the other direction - from Win Mail to phone.
- If you don't already have a Gmail account, create one (it's just a temporary tool for this process).
- Set up the iphone for the gmail account and synchronize it. This should sync your contacts.
- from you google.com interface: export your contacts (unfortunately it only supports CSV format).
- In Thunderbird, import your contacts
