Hi,

See attached for details. One feature I'm trying to setup with FF is search engine query URL shortcuts. Basically, it allows the user to type a letter and it auto enables that URL. In this case, we're using Reddit. Basically, it allow us to type 'R' followed by a space which then auto populates the query URL. We can then type in our requested subreddits. However, I haven't been able to get this to work with FF. The search engine function add-on in firefox only enables a general search instead of subreddit specific. Would love to hear any feedback and/or solutions. Thanks in advance.

Hi CarpeDien, in Firefox, this kind of custom search engine is implemented through bookmarks.

Let's say you bookmark your favorite subreddit. Then you edit the bookmark with two changes:

  • Use the %s parameter where you want your search terms to go (but this might only work at the end); this will look like your screenshot
  • Place the letter r in the keyword field

Note that you need to call up the Properties dialog for this kind of edit, or use the Library. So those options are either:

  • Right-click the bookmark on the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Toolbar, or in the Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b), then click Properties to make your edits
  • Call up the Library window (Ctrl+Shift+B), display the relevant folder on the right side, single-click the bookmark to select it, and use the form at the bottom of the window to make your edits

Can you get it going?

@Jscher2000 - Thank you for the workaround. Takes some configuration but was able to get it done.

This would be great to have built into the search engine settings for Mozilla like in Chrome. See: [Custom Search Engines in Google Chrome: Essential Tips and Tricks] https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/create-custom-search-engines-google-chrome/ - MakeUseOf
