52.9.1 (64bit) does not pickup pop3 after recent upgrade
I believe Thunderbird updated yesterday on my machine yesterday. Now running 52.9.1. I haven't received email from my pop3 account (imap appears to work) since yesterday. I've checked webmail on ISP for my pop3 account and there is email waiting to collect. So, this appear to be a problem with pop3 collection. I've tried clicking 'get all new messages'. I'm running Thunderbird on a macbook pro using masOS 10.13.6.
Thanks for your help.

If you have a slow or intermittent connection at home, the first thing to consider is if there is an antivirus program scanning email. If so, disable that function (a recommended practice in all cases). Next, there is a preference, mailnews.tcptimeout, that can be adjusted to increase the default timeout. See the section 'If none of the above...' here in the middle of the article. Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor to modify preferences.

Thanks. Tried all of those things, but still not working. The fact that I received your email, via web-based mail, shows that the passwords etc are all correct. And I've checked the other setting. The firewall etc has not changed. This problem appears to be related to the recent update. Thanks for your continuing help.
Do you get any error message?
None. It shows the "connecting to.. " message but that just disappears after a while without anything downloaded.
Open the account through webmail and delete messages, starting from around the time they stopped downloading to TB, until you delete the one that is blocking the rest. Also, empty the Junk or Spam folder if applicable.
I've deleted all the spam through the webmail box, leaving only routine emails which I recognise. I've deleted the contents of the junk folder and the trash, although there is very little in there. I've been keeping these quite clear recently because of a high volume of spam.
If there is a corrupted message blocking downloads, it may very well be a routine, legitimate one in the Inbox.
There is no sign of any corrupt message. Looking through al the remaining messages (having removed the spam) they look absolutely routine and familiar.
An update on this problem!
I've previously been trying to connect from home, where we have poor internet speeds (because I live in the country). Today I went into University. The emails downloaded and cleared the backlog of message from the pop3 box. On returning home the download message problem has resumed. And messages since leaving Uni have not downloaded.
I can therefore only assume that this problem relates in someway to the download time or time for connections to get the emails.
Has the recent update in anyway changed the timing for downloading emails? If so, can thus be changed?
Thanks for the help.

Thanks, but sadly that didn't work. There is no antivirus running. I don't really understand why this problem only started in the last couple fo days. TB worked perfectly well until Tuesday. Now it pick imap fine but not my pop3 email.
Just a thought? Would 'message filtering' make any difference? I've recently been adding quite a few message filters, including some filter on 'body' content.
This is resolved. I called my broadband service provider. It turns out they have do something to the connection in the last couple of days, which has filtered out my pop3. So, this is not a TB problem. It's caused by some changes to internet connection. Thank you very much for all your help. Sorry for taking up your valuable time. Many thanks. Chris
