Hi, I keep all my emails and file them in folders. A few weeks ago, when the Inbox filled with over ~3000 messages, I couldn't get any emails from Gmail, and only from Gmail. Other sources, all of them POP (including Gmail), all continued working fine. I cleaned the inbox, and not when it has but 2000 messages, I only get 3-5 messages at a time. I have to keep asking TB to download new messages several times immediately one after the other to get everything I see on the web server in Gmail. So the connectivity, username and password are all in order, otherwise, I wouldn't have received the 3-5 messages in the first place. But why are the rest of them held back?

Shahar,

Google can rate limit your download volume.

Do you still see this problem??

Thanks for answering. Still has this problem.

I have non-google accounts and Thunderbird downloads all the messages at once. Only my Gmail account is hindered. If I keep hitting check new mail, it will all download eventually, but imagine the annoyance of having to do that >20 times just to cover a couple of days' worth of emails.

Any solution?

what download frequency have you set in account settings. I have found over the years folk complaining of this type of problem have often set the download to less than 10 minutes and returning it to it's default actually fixes the issue.

I have also seen occasions where the anti virus gets so wrapped up in it's email scanning that the connection to the server is lost before the download completes. I assume it times out. So try disabling any email scanning in your anti virus and see if that helps.
