I would like to add a password while I try to see my saved passwords.

for example: When I go to settings and try to see my saved passwords, it just ask if I really want to see my passwords. Without this anyone who gets to my computer can read all my passwords!

I'd like to use something like master password, but only for settings. I don't want to be disturbed asking for master password everytime I open the browser. I don't mind if someone login to my account, but I don't want him to know that password.

If someone just login on some website, he doesn't see the passwords. I mean he just can access that website only from my computer. But if he see the passwords he can access the website from everywhere and he can try to use that password on the other sites (and with some luck he can access them).

I would like to add a setting menu which will configure the master password.. like: 1. Lock sites 2. Lock password setting. You can check what you want to lock and make Firefox more customizable.

Well.. never mind, thank you anyway :)

I understand what you want, but I think it isn't really safer. If someone uses your computer and access to a website where you have a stored login/password, he can connect to your account. The only different thing with "Saved Passwords…" window is that all login and passwords are summarize in the same place. If you're worried about your passwords security, I strongly recommend you to use a master password.

The names and passwords stored in logins.json are encrypted with an encryption key that is stored in key3.db and a master password adds an additional level to this encryption. If you do not use a master password then having access to key3.db and logins.json is sufficient to have access to the encrypted names and passwords by placing the two files in a Firefox profile folder.

When you enter the Master Password when prompted then you log in to the Software Security Device and it is possible to have access to the stored passwords until you log out of the Software Security Device.

You can log out from the Software Security Device (e.g. click Cancel in the Show Passwords dialog) to force re-entering the MP once again.

  • Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"

You can view the current status via this page (either Log In button or Log Out button is enabled):

  • Options > Advanced > Encryption: Certificates > Security Devices
Select: Software Security Device: Log Out button

You need to enter the MP when prompted to make it possible for Firefox to decrypt a stored name and password and enter it in a form on the web page. If you use Sync then you will be prompted for the MP as well when you start Firefox. Note that entering the MP when you click Show Passwords to show the passwords when you are already logged on to the Software Security Device is not actually required, but is only done to make it not too easy to see the passwords.
