How can I unblock Java?

I think FF is not letting me use this plugin: Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.800.15 10.80.2.15

I tried to play a Flash based game (Adventure Quest) today and the page said "A plugin is needed to display this content"... I was playing this game yesterday with no issues...

The Java Deployment Toolkit usually isn't needed by most sites. Instead, check the version of your Java(TM) Platform SE plugin on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for Java. If it's disabled, it may be at the bottom on a grayed background.

In another thread, an XP user said that the latest Java won't install (series 8). If you need the most up-to-date in Series 7, last time I looked that seemed to be the following:

Windows x86 Offline 28.14 MB jre-7u80-windows-i586.exe

From here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase7-521261.html#jre-7u80-oth-JPR

Now... even though that is the last version supported on Windows XP by Oracle, it's possible that Firefox will at least require site-specific approvals before it can be used. If it's completely blocked, then Java won't be useful for you any more at all.
