When I send message, it can't save to Sent box. I can't delete unwanted messages. All my 5 mail accounts behave the same. This started two days ago suddenly, perhaps after an upgrade; however, reinstaling makes no diffrence. I am on Windows 8.1

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder(s). Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

Thank you for your reply, but I don't know where to find "Properties". I looked on the icon for Thunderbird where there is a Properties but I don't find "Repair Folder". When I have the folder names under "Tools", nothing happens with a right click.
