When first starting the internet with Firefox I get a connection is reset message. For months I thought it might be my security software. Bought a laptop yesterday , IE was default and did not get the connection is reset message at start up. Installed Mozilla Firefox and made this my default browser and the connection was reset message was back straight away.

My desktop has different antivirus/security SW then my laptop and also tried with the antivirus security SW disabled, no I am not using a proxy on either device.

When I start the internet it takes aprox 4 minutes before I can actually connect I am using windows XP SP 2 on the desktop and Windows 8 on the laptop both have the same problem and that is my reason to believe it is a Firefox issue. Had the issue checked out by my o2 service provider who asked me to try on a different network, tried Vodafone and had the same problem there.

Hey,

Your question is a duplicate of this question:

If his suggestions didn't work for you, try clearing Cache and Cookies.

Try disabling your add-ons to see if they have any effect.

Add Firefox to trusted application list of your Anti-virus instead of turning the Anti-virus off.

If none of above fixed your problem, then that's it:

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
