Hello all,

I'm having trouble with a new Thunderbird install on a Win10 Pro PC laptop. I had to reinstall a perfectly working version due to a security upgrade/new profile at work.

The problem is that when adding multiple email accounts, the three accounts that are using the same service provider, i.e. @xfinity.com will install and validate properly, however the account inboxes all copy the Inbox content of the primary account and won't bring up the content from the individual account. I've added the accounts the same way as always (IMAP) and all of the server settings are correct for each individual account. Any idea why they're duplicating the primary account would be very helpful. TIA! (Install version 128.5.2esr (64-bit))

Hi all,

has there been a recent change in Thunderbird's archiving behavior? Whenever I archive an email in Thunderbird, it only gets marked as deleted since a recent update (about 2-3 weeks ago). The emails then stay in the inbox until I fully delete them. Previously, moving an email to the archive would delete it from the inbox right away.

Is there any option to control this behavior? It makes my inbox quite messy - especially when on the go and already archived emails keep appearing in my inbox.

Many thanks in advance.

Dear community,

I would like to create a series of events, but each named individually. In my case, I do take part in a challenge which lasts 99 days.

So I would like to create 99 events in my calendar, each named "Day 1" or "Challenge Day 1", then "Day 2" or "Challenge Day 2"

You get the idea. I was able of course to create 99 events, but they are all named equally.

Any help would be useful

Regards Harry

Hi,

In the past, when I configured my Proton Mail account in Thunderbird, it would explicitly ask for a certificate approval right away.

Recently, it sends a notification (which is sometimes difficult to see) which you need to click to get the pop-up to approve the certificate.

I imagine this affects more than just Proton Mail accounts.

No error messages appear in Thunderbird. The status only shows "Checking mail server capabilities".

Was this behavior perhaps changed in a recent version?

I am using Thunderbird 128.5.2esr on Windows.

I have a calendar with a CalDAV connection through my hosting service. The CalDAV connection is fine, because it is working properly on my phone. However, when I try and add the calendar in Thunderbird I run into problems.

I have managed to create the calendar and Thunderbird did accept my login credentials. The calendar appears in the calendar menu, but it is not enabled. When I try and enable it, it immediately jumps back to "not enabled". What could be causing this, and how do I get around it?

Thank you sincerely, Rasmus

POP email for gmail debugging

Hi there,

I've used Thunderbird for many years with a Gmail account. I access the account using both IMAP(993 SSL/TLS) and POP3 (995 SSL/TLS) via two different account definitions within TB.

I use POP3 to basically download and create an archive from the emails. That would work by POP3 pulling down emails to its own inbox and then a few Message filtering rules on that mailbox moving things into Local Folders (so the POP inbox would remain empty). Email would also be left on google servers. Email on the servers would be left in Unread state.

The IMAP account setup was maing for mobile access etc. This was basically separate to the POP3 tasks.

This has been working since 2011.

I recently notice though that emails weren't downloading via POP3. I've always had logging turned on, and that shows it last processed new email for the POP3 download back in August 2024.

I can't figure out whats broken. If I do a manual email-fetch, everything seems to run and it just seems to think there's no new email to pull down. But thats not true.

I've looked at the gmail settings and nothing looks different.

Is there some way I can debug further within TB to see whats happening ? The existing log just shows nothing at all.

I can pull a wireshark log of the POP3 comms if I switched away from SSL, but I'm not sure gmail supports that

I'm having the exact same problem as described in this question: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1440106

I had a university email account in Thunderbird, and then I attempted to delete the email from Thunderbird as it had been deactivated. I deleted its entries from saved passwords / the calendar. However, I'm still getting a googleapis.com login prompt every time I open Thunderbird, although I can find no references for it anywhere.

The answer to the linked question recommends checking the address book for a caldav link to the old account, but I don't see anything like that so either I'm looking in the wrong place or that's not my problem.

I appreciate the help, I love Thunderbird but this is getting really annoying.

Hello,

I try to create a TB account for a mail account *@outlook.fr ans something goes wrong. The mail account is not the mail id associated with the MS365 account of the current Windows session.

Everything is well set (joined screen capture).

To proceed, I refer to several documents : Following the recommendations of : [https://support.mozilla.org/fr/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentification-thu...] In this article I should get a panel (joined screen capture) which purpose is to allow Thunderbird to access to the mail box *@outlook.fr Nota : as described (french translation of the article) this panel can be accessed using the following url: « https://login.microsoftonline.com/{tenant-id}/adminconsent?client_id=9e5f94bc-e8a4-4e73-b8be-63364c29d753 » Then allow Mozilla Thunderbird to access to : "IMAP.AccessAsUser.All, POP.AccessAsUser.All, SMTP.Send et offline_access.

When I validate the connection parameters, I should get this previous panel but I get the unexpected "connect to an MS account" (see joined screen capture).

So, if you validate (giving the password and "connect") then you have changed the current account of the Windows session which cannot anymore operate in normal conditions (particularly changes the current user of MS365 applications).

This is not the expected behavior.

The nonsense of this behavior can be enlarged by this proposal : "Imagine that you have to activate several *@outlook.fr mail sessions, what could be the consequences ?".

In another way, as it is an IMAP account which is a "multi-user" function, several users are normally able to connect simultaneously which is opposed to MS account which cannot (must not - built for) be connected with several Windows sessions simultaneously.

Consequently, something goes wrong when you set up an outlook.fr mail account. It looks like the two connection with same id (*@outlook.fr) : 1- connect MS365 account (linked to and id by *@outlook.fr) for contextual use of MS365 applications 2- connect to *@outlook.fr mail IMAP account to manage mails are somewhere confused.

For now, I am unable to set up the configuration of mailboxes for a team where several are using Thunderbird as mailer and others Outlook, while everybody of the team must have access to the e-mail of the team which is an outlook.fr mail account.

Best regards, Trebly (trebly_auth)

Nota: I have set up the Outlook.fr account using Gmail on my smartphone without any problem.

When splitting up a home, what needs to be done to separate the access via the nonmobile devices? There are two people and thunderbird is what I/we have used for file structure. One person can access both Gmail accounts files, folders, etc. on the in-house, or non-mobile system, but the other person cannot. On our mobile phones, neither can access folders other than their own.

How to completely separate the email account access, without creating confusion?! Ian pretty sure both email accounts are set to IMAP and not POP. So what is the easiest way to learn and complete this task?

Thanks, Steve

All the emails in one of my Thunderbird (TB)accounts deleted a total of over a hundred emails over time when Thunderbird (TB) closed. I still have 5 other TB accounts that are open. The other accounts do not delete the emails as my main account (MMA) does. The deleted emails did not go into another folder such as Deleted or Junk. The top of the MMA display states 100 plus emails are in MMA, but I cannot find or answer them. Question 1: Where are the emails and how can I recover them?

Secondly, now a new problem. A tech deleted MMA and tried to reinstall the MMA to recover the 100+ emails. He could not reinstate the MMA, nor can I. When we tried to reinstate MMA, it states “Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password.” It will not accept the only 2 passwords I have used. How can I change the password and reinstate MMA?
