Re-acquiring Thunderbird data

My PC has its programs located on SSD (C:) but data stored on HDD (I:). I've had to replace SSD and installing TB initially sets itself up on C:, collecting emails from the identified account. Original and historic data from 2 accounts is stored in the appropriate I:Users/User/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird location. I've looked at the proffered help for setting up pointers to this folder but the text in the new .ini file, located in C:, doesn't seem to match the description given in the help. Is there any child's guide to doing this, or even how I could get the data transferred from I: to C: (as my new SSD is very much larger in capacity). Belt and braces, I do have a back-up copy on an external HDD if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

When you browsed to I:\Users\<<username>>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles to select the source of the new profile, did you then select a profile that is normally a subfolder of Profiles, e.g. something like ...\Profiles\8characters.default?

Open the Profile Manager, create a new profile and point it to the profile folder in drive I:

Thank you so much for your speedy reply.

I have created the new profile as you suggested but it doesn't seem to work, just gives me the sam Inbox and nothing else in the way of subfolders and the second account. I tried doing it twice, the first time using the route "I:\Users\<<username>>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles", which gave me nothing different. The second time using the route I:\Users\<<username>>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird which second approach just lead me to the Start Up Thunderbird routine, so that was wrong of me. My reasoning here was that there were a lot of other folders and stuff in the Thunderbird folder which I thought might be an influence - foolish of me!

I wonder if I need to change any of the \ to /? I recall seeing a comment about this possibility when I was trying to find my way around, but I'm not that good at these kinds of subtleties. Sorry if I'm being a bozo here (I'm afraid it goes with the age!).

I've marked this as problem solved, many thanks. However, one silly thing is that new messages are no longer automatically downloaded. I've checked the Account settings in both the accounts accessed by the profile and the Server settings show the Check for new messages at startup box is checked on both accounts. Weird! Any ideas? I've just thought - maybe I should uncheck, then recheck the box on both accounts. Is that a good idea? Thanks for all the speedy help getting this problem resolved, uch appreciated.

Thanks for this info, I'll have to work my way through it, amongst other stuff as a consequence of rebuilding my PC after fitting a new SSD boot volume. As for the Global Inbox question, I currently haven't a clue. I reinstalled TB and it launched OK into boot volume, automatically downloading new mails. I then followed the advice I was given in order to set the data pointer to the appropriate location on my HDD (which has been working OK for many years) and this new problem appeared. Weird! I'll peg away at it and hopefully get it fixed. I much appreciate your speedy responses, I am not so speedy at implementing them due to other constraints.
