This isn't really a FF help user forum problem but more a VLC and Adobe help issue. But the question to ask is did you custom install or express installed? Because if you express it will do what it is set to do from VLC isntall not user installed options.

Hi, sorry having issues. Seems rather odd can not use both. Download https://www.revouninstaller.com/ and use it to uninstall and clean VLC out, XP compatible. Do not use it on Firefox unless want to loose your Profile.

See if that does anything towards fixing the issue.

Did you check in the VLC settings to make sure that the VLC plugin is enabled for browsers like Firefox?

Firefox usually locates plugins via a Windows Registry scan, so make sure that the necessary keys are present.

Hello, Thanks for your reply.

I did clean uninstall for both VLC and Adobe Flash Player, but as you can see I had another problem of opening the videos in a new tab, even after re-installing Adobe Flash Player, videos keep playing in a new tab (Which is frustrating).

I use Mozilla 51 because I've a problem with the latest compatible version Mozilla 52, its fonts is distorted & I can't fix it, So I use the old version instead.

I'm considering the upgrade but I live in a poor country.

Please note that I've uninstalled VLC.

There was a bug in Firefox 48-50 where VLC could substitute for the Flash plugin on the Add-ons page, and they always had the same permissions. That was fixed in Firefox 51, so I don't think that is the issue.

Flash player content is sent with the content type application/x-shockwave-flash so the setting for video/x-flv in your Applications list should not affect that.

Do you use any video-related extensions which might intercept Flash content for any reason, such as downloading/saving/recording? Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
• (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

That's hard to explain. Possibly the Plugins registry got corrupted. You can rename the file and have Firefox rebuild it. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

• "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
• (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
• type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

• "3-bar" menu button > (power button) Exit
• (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginregOLD.dat.

Start Firefox back up again and it should re-scan the Windows registry and various shared folders to rebuild your list. Any improvement?
