When I open the browser I get a extra tab besides my home page that opens. I only want my home page to open.

Did you check the target line in the properties of the desktop shortcut?
You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Hello dfried81 1. To fix this problem click the Menu button and then Options.
2. Click General tab up the top.
3. Click Restore to default and then click OK.
4. Now go to the website you would like to make your home page.
5. Drag the icon next to the website address in the address bar to the home button icon on the tool bar.
This should hopefully fix your problem.
You can also see a video showing you these steps but in reverse Here.
You can check the home page setting:
- Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

I confirmed that just my homepage was registered. It is when I open the firefox that I get my home page on the first tab and a generic search page on the second tab. If I select my home page from the icon on the tool bar I only get my home page.

Extra pages can be a sign that a bad add-on has crept into your Firefox. For example, an Astromenda infection.
cor-el pointed you toward Firefox's Add-ons page, and I suggest also checking here:
Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
For further cleaning, try the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
Found 2 add-ons that were from Mozilla. The first was a new tab and the other was when opening a new tab make Yahoo default on new tab. Thanks for the help.

I use Malwarebytes all ready. Love it.
