Emails from Gmail have blank error boxes where pictures should be and pictures are at the end. Have spend days checking options and account settings and nothing helps. FYI in Privacy- Allow remote contact in messages IS CHECKED. Tried several add-on and no change. I am ready to dump Thunderbird and open Emails in Gmail or keep it and ONLY use Thunderbird for some outgoing emails. Any help will be appreciated.

Do you have View/Message Body as set to Original HTML?

To your question "Do you have View/Message Body as set to Original HTML?" the answer is YES.

It was set to Original HTML and I even tested Simple HTML, Plain Text sure that it would not help then I installed the add on "All Body Parts" and still the problem is the same.

FYI NOT ALL EMAILS ARE THE PROBLEM.

I am able to open Emails from commercial senders like Home Depot and many more with pics and even some Emails from friends then are others and not only one, where the blank boxes with a small icon and many letters at the top of the clear box and the pics at the end of the Email.

I thought that it might be settings set restricting what content is SENT BY THEM but then WHY can I open them in my GMAIL account and see the pics correctly BUT NOT when I open them in Thunderbird.

Thanks for the help,

Rick Kurth

If it happens with some senders, can you see any pattern, e.g. they paste content from Word into Outlook message bodies? I can imagine that gmail webmail is more tolerant of malformed messages or non-standard formatting than TB. The fact that some remote images show properly in TB suggests that it's not due to a security program on your computer blocking content, which is not a factor with webmail.

Two different senders and BOTH are from I believe AT&T with addresses @sbcglobal.net show empty boxes IN EVERY EMAIL FROM THEM with pics dumped to the end. This happens EVEN when they reply to an Email that I sent to them which had the correct pictures when sent BUT empty boxes in their reply where they only a short text reply. A third sender with empty boxes is from a @gmail.com address. I just installed an update to Thunderbird with hope for a fix but no change. Any thoughts?

Instead of the sender's address or mail provider, it's probably more relevant which email program they're using. This can sometimes be found by looking at the message source headers (Ctrl+U). Even then, that won't show the exact process or other programs involved as they construct and send email.

Please review that one is a gmail the other are sbcglobal.net. The main fact is that they open fine using GMAIL but are garbage when THUNDERBIRD OPENS THE EMAILS ON MY GMAIL.

I do appreciate the attempts to help but I am considering just using Gmail and maybe MS Mail to put my Email in one place. For a long time I thought the misplaced pics in Emails was the sender settings problem but no longer.

It should come as no surprise that TB fails to display some non-standards-compliant emails, whereas they appear fine in Gmail's webmail. Just as emails sent by Outlook or Apple Mail users always look OK to recipients using the same programs to read them.

If the disadvantages of using TB outweigh the advantages, nobody would discourage you from seeking another solution.

Once again, thanks for trying but I don't know exactly what "non-standard" compliant Emails means. Two of the senders are using AT&T's Email service ending in @sbcglobal.net the other from @gmail.com. That Thunderbird finds them "non-standard" indicates to me that the problem is not with AT&T and Google but rather with how Thunderbird recognizes and/or processes it. Thanks anyway. I will post when I find a product that works with all Standard Emails

It doesn't which email service they're using - it's which email program they're using that matters. If, e.g., they are composing email in Word and sending through Outlook, the result is a 'non-standard' form of HTML that the recipient's email program may or may not render satisfactorily.

Good luck finding a program that deciphers email sent from every other email client.

BOTTOM LINE: All Emails open accurately using ONLY gmail But when they are opened WITH Thunderbird the pics are blank boxes from AT LEAST three senders and likely more if they ever send pics to me. EVEN MY EMAILS WITH PICS that I sent to them and were fine when they opened it BUT had blank boxes with the pics dumped to the bottom WHEN I OPENED THE RETURNED EMAIL WITH ON TEXT COMMENTS ADDED. FYI NEITHER OF THE AT&T MAIL USERS @sbcglobal.net sender is using outlook or word but only the mail program included with this major ISP. The other uses MS Mail with @gmail.com. It appears to be a THUNDERBIRD problem but that will be for THUNDERBIRD to determine IF IT IS AN ISSUE and IF THEY WANT TO OR HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

Bottom line, because it works in gmail is not evidence Thunderbird has a problem. It is evidence perhaps that gmail is also not standards complaint. But we know that already.

You argument is similar to one my boss uses when I want to take bald tires of the ute. He says thy still hold air so are Ok. Gmail still holds air, but it is not the best.

First there is no ARGUMENT only a question. 1. You state: "We know that already" that gmail is "NOT STANDARDS COMPLIANT"? Same issue with 2 senders from @sbcglobal.net which is AT&T. So AT&T is also "not standards compliant"? 2. The second part of your reply which I assume is an attempt at an analogy. It is difficult to read and more difficult to understand. My current car has only 11,000 miles on it, so I don't "want to take bald tires of the ute" ???? How about this analogy: A car has bald tires that still holds air (Emails from Gmail & AT&T). I want to change the bald tires but sadly the tool in my trunk, my jack, DOES NOT WORK (THUNDERBIRD?) Thunderbird had been a "great tool" but its ability to open Emails with pics is NOW BROKEN from several senders and in my opinion Thunderbird software developers need to be informed that it NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I started this dialog to find that settings that I need to change and find that Thunderbird need to fix this.
