Slow multi touch zooming and no tap to zoom in Firefox?
I'm using 16.02 firefox with a new Windows 8 Touch screen tablet and prefer to use Firefox as my browser. The issue is that pinch to zoom in/out works, but it's VERY slow, you can see every single text size change as you zoom in/out. Contrasted with Internet Explorer 10 which is extremely fast and fluid.
The zoom speed/animation on Firefox is unacceptable for this longtime Firefox user. Is there a configuration change I can make, or is this something I am stuck with? Is there a planned update for this to work correctly and smoothly like your competitor?
Unfortunately zoom in/out is an absolutely necessary function on a tablet so I will have to go back to internet explorer 10 even though I don't want to, I've used Firefox for the past 4 or 5 years and would highly prefer to support you.
Also on the same subject Internet Explorer 10 has a tap to zoom feature as well, a double tap anywhere on the screen and I get an automatic zoom which most of the time zooms in the center gutter of text quite nicely, does Firefox have this feature or plan on implementing it?
Remember, touch tablets, touch laptops and even touch desktops have been around and are currently replacing the non touch stuff, I would hope you guys don't get caught behind the curve.

Firefox won't be fully Win8 compatible until Firefox 18, and the Tablet version won't be fully compatible until a later version.
I was under the impression that Firefox supported multi touch on the Macs? Seems like you are going to lose a lot of consumers waiting so long for an OS that has been released. Any time frame?
Opera browser was just released with full Windows 8 touch support. Any ballpark of when Firefox may consider this feature? Is there a reason you are so far behind your competitors?
Yes I've read about the metro version, but I doubt I would even use it. I primarily use the desktop version as often it is used for business. It's interesting reading through that thread that metro Firefox will be based on the mobile browser and not the desktop version. Little or no support for addons for example isn't something I'm interested in.
I see on another forum that windows 8 is shown as a supported OS for Firefox 17 which is due Nov 20, can anyone confirm this and what level of support they will add?
Well it was too good to hope for. I'm running Firefox 17 beta and no fixes for Windows 8 performance. Very sluggish scrolling and graphics loading. No left/right finger scrolling. Very sluggish multi touch zoom.
18.0a2 and still no multi zoom, tap to zoom.
