Ever since I updated to FireFox 6.0, my downloads almost always fail at 99% with an error "filename could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location"

When it gives me this error message, I just go to the downloads window (Ctrl+J), double click on the download to re-download and it works every time. I essentially have to download everything twice.

To start, you might want to look at the steps in Basic Troubleshooting

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

This seems to be working so far. I downloaded 15 different files without the error. I will keep this updated as I work on it. I need to figure out what configuration changes need to be made and I will post them. I am using Computer Associates - Etrust 8.1
