I have a recurring problem. When opening a website link I am often automatically redirected to a mozilla website page. Sometimes it's the "building a better internet" page and sometimes it is the one I've attached.

This is NOT an issue of not knowing how to use the tools/options/homepage settings. I know how to do that.

Could you describe which kinds of links are not working correctly? For example:

  • ordinary links in web pages that open in the same tab
  • links in web pages that open a new tab or new window
  • links in web pages that you direct to a new window (either by holding down the Shift key or right-click > Open Link in New Window)
  • links outside of Firefox (e.g., in an Office document, mail program, or Adobe Reader)

My default setting for links is to open in a new tab. From websites within Mozilla I click on a link (the latest episode happened to be my online banking website) and instead of being taken to the desired website I'm taken to a Mozilla website. I have attached an image of the page that appears.

That's bizarre. Do you have any other extensions besides Adblock Plus that could possibly affect how pages load? You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. No extensions are included with Firefox; all are optional. If in doubt, disable.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any difference?

I've attached a screen capture of my extensions. Should I start removing them one at a time? I got rid of a couple, but as you can see in the second tab, the "We're building a better internet" still pops up.

You have a lot of ad blockers. Maybe simplify:

  • Enable: Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Pop-up Add-on
  • Disable for now: Adblock Edge, Adblock for GMail
  • Remove: Ads no more (has negative reviews)

I think NewTabURL doesn't work any more. You can remove that one and if you need to modify what shows on the new tab, use one of the ones I'll mention later.

I'm not familiar with the other two.

Here are some options for the new tab page:

Please only use one of these methods at a time, otherwise there may be conflicts and dysfunctionality.

Setting up New Tab Override and Custom New Tab

After installing one of these extensions, you need to use its Options page to set the desired new tab page (instead of using about:config). The Options button will appear on the Add-ons page, Extensions list.

Thank you... I'll follow your recommendations and see how it goes for the next week or so. I'll check back in to let you know.
