Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I appreciate the quick response; I tried each one individually as well as together several times in different combinations in the last few days , even executing the virus and running each one to see if could eliminate it, to no avail. I'm contemplating purchasing one of the top 3 malware protection, but not before I completely delete Firefox from the system and do I a complete re install, the adware is being identified as a outbound malicious website blocked , by malwarebytes : the page info is still http://mediaupdate-wm41.com/wm321ff23.../?clcsr=1 text encoding is UTF-8. Nothing being identified when i do a search in the registry; Micro Soft security essentials as well as their security scan was useless on Firefox however it seems to be protecting MS Explorer well. Makes one wonder:
A little more on this outbound malware

hello, could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...
Phil, I appreciate your help, thank you! I’m going to let you guys know exactly what I did because no matter what virus anti malware protection software I used it had no effect on this malware that already infected the program, it seem to be rooted deep. In the last few days I used every combination possible, running several virus programs at once , by themselves, with the virus engage, not engaged, system restore, delete Firefox, install an older version, re run each of the malware programs, pick an older restore point, everything except compare a infected program with one that was infected. By the time I read your email I was already in the process of comparing the registry with another computer that was not infected, there were too many inconsistencies so before I wiped the drive I edited Mozilla completely from the registry and manually deleted what I could from what was left after the uninstall. Installed the Malwarebytes, clean and defrag the drive, ran Malwarebytes again, and then I downloaded a fresh copy of Firefox, engaged Malwarebytes to monitor the drive as I installed it on the computer. No bookmarks as I expected, which is ok, it tells me I did an ok job of wiping. What exactly did I fix? I don’t know. Next time if this happens I will do what you say Phil first, then we can break it down. So far the malware has not shown itself. Thank you guys very much for answering me and trying to help. I appreciate it.
