I've had to change my password and my process hasn't been smooth. I tried the options offered in show passwords that didn't work, I tried responding to error message asking for password but failed. As last resort I attempted to install the email account and response was that already had the account. Next, I deleted the account and tried to install the same account again and proceeded to verification of password and stop without installing email account. Now I'm unable to use Thunderbird application to receive/send emails and application has become useless until I'm able to open my [email protected] email account. What do I have to do or what do you need to do and allow me to establish my email in Thunderbird? Thanks Bob Meale

You need to use what AT&T calls a Secure Mail Key with Thunderbird. Your primary ATT password won't work with Thunderbird. See https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240462/ for details. See https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1240308 for how to create a secure mail key then see https://www.att.com/support/article/email-support/KM1010478 for the settings you need to use with Thunderbird to access your ATT mail, then make changes if needed.

No, Thunderbird works well with my other AT&T email of [email protected] that's for alternate use and [email protected] worked fine until deleted and NEVER used a 'secure mail key' before your message. Also, my iPhone is working fine with [email protected] and NO 'secure mail key' needed. Plus any return message your sending is be received on my smartphone.

If you have an account with a password that hasn't changed since AT&T started requiring secure mail keys, it will still work, but if you change a password now, use a secure key. This is necessary for desktop mail clients - mobile mail apps are handled with less-strict requirements.
