Why is upgrading Firefox so confusing?

more options

Why is upgrading Firefox so damn confusing? I just upgraded at Firefox's urging and when the new page opened it still said I am not on the latest version. One problem is that when you click on "Upgrade" it takes you to a page where you would expect that somewhere it would say "Upgrade." But that is not the case. The directions are unclear on how to proceed and I am never sure if I am in fact upgrading. The process often does not work the first time. When you are done, why isn't there a box that says "You have successfully installed the latest version of Firefox" so there is no ambiguity? This recurring problem makes me reluctant to bother upgrading whenever Firefox prompts me to do so.

This - http://www.google.com/firefox - is the old Firefox Start Page used by the Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions of Firefox, I don't think it is being maintained by Google.

Starting with the Firefox 4 version, Firefox is using a "local" Start Page with the address of about:home. It looks similar to the old Start Page, but it isn't exactly the same.
