Firefox doesn't read OS X system wide network proxy settings is there a fix for this?
I am connected to a proxy server for my university using Mac OS X (Snow Leopard). I am able to connect if I set Firefox's personal proxy settings however, if I don't set them but rather set OS X's system wide proxy settings Firefox will not acknowledge the new setting and won't connect. Is there a fix for this?

What are the current the connection settings?
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
See "Firefox connection settings":
The settings here are set to 'Auto-detect proxy settings for this network'. This will work if I set the 'Automatic proxy configuration URL' in the settings but I'm not interested in setting this configuration whenever I change locations. Thanks.
Maybe an extension helps:
- FoxyProxy Standard: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-standard/
- AutoProxy: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/autoproxy/
-> click Firefox button and click Options (OR File Menu -> Options)
- Advanced panel
- Network tab
- Connection section -> click Settings button
- use radio button option 1 or 2 or 3 (check which setting works)
- click OK on Options window
- Restart Firefox
Check and tell if its working.
FoxyProxy will do the job to a degree I suppose though it looks like I will need to manually activate the university proxy when I want to connect to it. AutoProxy looks a little more complicated than I feel is really needed. All I'm interested in doing is having Firefox obey the system wide network preferences I've set up with my OS. Thanks for the extensions though.
