My system crashed and I am locked out of my Thunderbirds account. I have 2 e-mail addresses (both via TalkTalk). Every attempt to open the padlocks has failed, as has re-setting passwords. How do I begin to solve this problem, please?

Hello there chezmeryck We have read your message. We try to help you.

If I’m right you did had Thunderbird accounts?or still having one account that is not accessible. With in thunderbird that talk talk account. Both are crashed and nothing works and login is not possible? Both different accounts are blocked and passwords won t helpt to login to Thunderbird. The talk talk accounts are locked to? Does these accounts from talk talk are they still accessible when there normally on their own? When these accounts not intergrated into Thunderbird? You cannot login into Thunderbird nomore.

Do you have two talk talk accounts? Or do you have more accounts from Thunderbird.

How many times the program crashes? Every time you start up? Tell me more please about that.

Hello, Thank you for replying, very kind of you.

To answer your questions: 1. Yes, I had/have 2 differently named Thunderbirds e-mail accounts of many years standing. 2. Both are/were TalkTalk accounts. 3. Both accounts are blocked with a padlock and passwords do not work/are not recognised.

I will explain what happened, which will hopefully answer your other questions. A Windows 10 update crashed and fried my hard drive. After 5 weeks in the computer repair shop, some/most Windows data had been retrieved but a new hard drive, software and programmes, including Mozilla Thunderbirds had to be uploaded again. This was all done by the technician in the repair shop. When I signed back into Mozilla Thunderbirds I couldn't get any access.

Via Google or Edge I can open/access both TalkTalk e-mail accounts. BUT this is only e-mails received since I got computer back with new hard drive etc. My address book [previously held in Thunderbirds] was empty!

With Mozilla Thunderbirds, I can get both accounts on the screen but both have a padlock against the address so I cannot open them.

I cannot access previous e-mails that were received/I sent before the computer crash. Not being able to access my many years worth of e-mails/e-mail history/address book etc [much of it work related] is a huge problem and, although I've had help from a computer savvy friend who has spent one whole days working on this, they cannot find a way to remove the padlocks/unlock the accounts.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated by us both. Thank you.

Hello there again moz8.

Oké can you send me some pictures of the messages and not accessible security locks you do discribe in the explenation of it s story. Thank you

This mechanic guy how can he solve your software? Did He used some passwords somehow to resolve? Was hè a software expert to do this?

Yes google and Thunderbird can give a denied access message even if the inlog service passwords are right its more a google thing. There is to low information to find for this machine that it is really you. It looks like if it’s been repaired? But other information could be slipped away or in other words it was disconnected. Replaced and reinstalled lost or damaged.

Do you have a another device maybe from that device you can try to log in online to your accounts from Thunderbird I’ve got this text for google and Thunderbird. Just choose your account on the other device and login with your old passwords and etc.

You will just see it’s just a Little thing that s bothering. And solve it.

If you can get into the software some how change the security key to oauth2.

Hello,

You mis-understand. It was not a mechanic who worked on my computer but a qualified Computer Technician. After installing a new hard drive, he uploaded new software onto that new hard drive and DOWNLOADED Mozilla/Thunderbirds [again] so I could access my e-mails in the way I always had. What he did in order to RETRIEVE my Windows/Word data I do not know because I am not a tech person.

We were unable to take a screenshot yesterday [or today] of the actual page in a format that can be downloaded - so sorry no picture at this time. However, I will describe what the page looks like ...

1. In top left corner = There is a blue envelope with a solid blue padlock in the bottom right corner of the envelope. This is on both e-mail accounts. 2. The message on the screen says: "Login to server imap.talktalk.net with username xxxx failed". [I have put xxxx in place of the username.] 3. Below this message are 3 boxes = Retry ... Enter New Password ... Cancel. We have clicked on Retry and Enter New Password on numerous occasions = nothing works.

I'm sorry if this information isn't how you would wish it - I cannot provide it via any other means. Thank you for your time and patience.

P.S. To my previous answer above ...

Your complete reply didn't fully upload to begin with so I've only just seen it as I retraced our correspondence. I do not have another device. That will require my friend bringing her laptop to me and the very earliest that can happen is Friday, 3 September.

I will e-mail a copy of our correspondence to her so she knows what you are asking/saying to see if she can help without coming to me or before the time when she can.

Thank you very much for your help - I'll post again, if I need to, once we've tried out your suggestion on her device.
