Running Windows 11 This morning I was not able to get to my Verizon/Aol email through Thunderbird. Thunderbird went through it's usual start up process and contacted the server but stalled at "Sending Password". Error message said "Sending of password did not succeed. Try again later." So I tried again this afternoon and get the same response. I checked and the server is reported up and working well. Doing some further checking I see Thunderbird updated this morning from version 91.5.0 to version 91.5.1 . It seems that since this update I'm no longer able to get into my mail server using Thunderbird. Thoughts ??? Thanks for your help.

Thanks. No App and just a standard password. Been working fine until this last update. Seeing others with problems like mine confirms this update has an issue. Thank you again.

App passwords aren't optional with Verizon, they are required for desktop programs like TB. Every Verizon user who has asked about this on the forum has resolved it with an app password.

You guys were right. Of course....  :)

This line from the AOL website had me second guessing:

"If you've activated 2-step verification for your AOL account, you'll need to generate and use an "app password" to access AOL Mail "

As far as I know I don't have 2- step verification activated for this account.

I'm in and things are good. Thanks for the help.

Until recently, if you had 2-step on the account, an app password was required. If not, the regular account password was sufficient. Now, app passwords are mandatory, even if 2-step is not in place. This change was apparently not adequately communicated to Verizon users, perhaps because the majority don't manage email with apps like TB.
