Why does Firefox open dozens requesters at the same time for cookies on the same site even when I check "Use my choice for all cookies from this site"

more options

When going on a new site, if several cookies are sent, Firefox opens a requester for each one of them, that I have to accept/deny one by one.

Checking "Use my choice for all cookies from this site" doesn't change anything.

It is very very tedious as some sites insert dozens of cookies.

It's unbelievably tedious! The problem is that many sites set cookies with the main page and with every linked file, including all the images. The requests stack up much faster than you could possibly click. Firefox is storing your preference, but those dialogs are not closed automatically.

A few years ago, I finally gave up on reviewing/setting all the cookie permissions in real time. I set Firefox to accept and keep all cookies for the duration of the current session. For sites where I want to use cookies to stay logged in, I create an exception. That part is a little easier now due to the Permissions tab in the Page Info dialog, which is accessible using either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the globe or padlock in the address bar > More Information > Permissions

Note that the change doesn't take effect until you clear the site's current-session-only cookies and let the server set them again. That will happen the next time you start Firefox and visit the site again, or you can hasten the process using the Security tab, "View Cookies" button to remove the session cookies, and reload the page. (Obviously you don't want to clear the session cookies if you have unsaved work pending on the site...)

But enough about me. If you prefer to keep the ask-for-approval approach, you might search to see whether there are any add-ons that ease the process.
