I am on a Mac and running Firefox 42.0 for web browsing needs. Our company uses Oracle EBS Suite for a variety of business functions, including recruitment/hiring. When I try to open a resume that someone has uploaded as a .doc or .docx, Firefox does not give me the option of simply opening the document in Word. It forces me to save the document someplace before I can the navigate to it and open it in Word.

I have gone into the preferences and in every instance where Word is mentioned, or .doc or .docx files are mentioned, I have changed the preferences to say "always open in word", but I continue to have this problem of being forced to save it first.

I can't figure out why this is happening, any help is appreciated.

I should add that this only seems to be a problem when trying to open .doc/.docx files from Oracle--so perhaps I should post this same question on an Oracle help forum--but I can open .doc/.docx files from other websites with no problems.

This is likely caused by the way the server is sending the file (Content-Disposition header). Only if the servers sends the file with a recognized content-type this can work properly. You can use the Live Http Headers extension to check the server response.
