In Tools/Account Settings/Disk Space I have changed the setting to "To save disk space do not download messages larger than 1000KB", but all are truncated.

This occurred a few months ago when I changed the Disk Space setting to "To save disk space do not download messages larger than 1000KB".

Since then Thunderbird has truncated every message I've received no matter what the size.

Not your fault, but made much more annoying because my server, Telstra (Australia) does not let me read more than two or three messages at a time without a delay, whereas if messages under 1000KB appear in my inbox automatically I do not have this problem.

Would really appreciate a solution, as when I've been away from my emails I can have a number accumulate and it wastes valuable work time waiting to download them.

Wendy I do not have issues with Bigplod mail downloading in small numbers, even when I have been away weeks. I don't use the save disk space setting either, but it should make no difference to getting mail.

What do you mean it has truncated all your mails? are all of them more than 1000kb (quite possible as a signature file with a picture or two created in Microsoft word will exceed a Mb in size)

I think perhaps your anti virus might be a more likely candidate. Try disabling the email scanning feature and see if things improve.

Only rarely do I get an email larger than 1000kb. But not matter how small the email, even if only a few kb, Thunderbird truncates every single one, and after I have "untruncated" a few emails, the server refuses to let me untruncate any more for a few minutes. I have used the Thunderbird Disk Save tool for years previously with no problems, and I think this happened when I changed it from 500 to 1000kb a few weeks ago (may have been due to a Mozilla update). I truncate large files because I pay $45/month for 4GB of usage, with absolutely no option to Telstra because I live in the bush in Queensland and Telstra wireless is our only choice for broadband. I use Windows Security Essentials and don't know how to turn off email scanning in it if indeed it does scan my emails (have always assumed it does, but can't find a way to see if it is). In any case I wouldn't want to have this feature off permanently. This problem with truncating all emails has occurred after I started to use Windows Security Essentials. Any more targetted thoughts please to what I've explained above.

If there is anyone else out there who lives in Australia, uses the truncation (Disk Space) tool and has experienced the same problem, and/or also uses Microsoft Security Essentials, please respond.

Microsoft security essentials does not have an email component. So there is nothing to turn off.

I do understand the Telstra thing, options here outside Port Augusta are not much better, although we did get ADSL with the last broadband scheme. Prior to that it was dialup. At work we are limited to Telstra WiFi (and about 2 bars of signal) and it is not very reliable at all.

So to the issue, and i am questioning my understanding of the problem. I have an account with yahoo that I have set to only download headers for all mail (that is in the server settings) so only headers download and I must click to download message bodies.

This displays a message that does not use the word truncated, do all your mails say truncated?

hi again Matt - thanks for taking the time again. In Thunderbird, try going to Tools/Account Settings/Disk Space listed under your email address. You will see that it gives you the option to limit the size of an incoming email that is to be downloaded completely. If an email of this size appears (title only) in your In Box, when you click on it to open it a message appears saying:

Truncated!This message exceeded the Maximum Message Size set in Account Settings, so we have only downloaded the first few lines from the mail server.

Download the rest of the message.

You click on the last sentence to download the email.

Then due to Smallpond, when you've done this to several emails, it ceases working for a few minutes while it gets over its indigestion and you can go back and open a few more.

We are a fair distance from each other geographically - ain't technology wonderful! I'm near the Qld/NSW border, SW of Toowoomba if you know where that is. Thanks again for your time and help.
