change screen when clicking on add a tab?

more options

I've tried the add-on to make the new tab a specific one like yahoo or something else. I also tried going in to make the change using the about:config and browser.newtab.url. They both don't work.

The original spam "Bing" search website url does not change after I make the changes with either of these two methods. I would like the screen with all the recent urls posted on the page when I add a new tab. How can I do this?

If you try to edit browser.newtab.URL and it remains completely unchanged after you click OK, it may be locked. Some users have reported this to be caused by a program named Search Protect that they found listed in the Windows Control Panel. If you open the Uninstall a Program control panel and click the "Installed on" column heading to sort the most recent items to the top, can you find that or any other unexpected/suspicious/unrecognized items? I would try to remove anything questionable here first, then exit and restart Firefox to see whether the lock is released.

If you can edit the preference, but Firefox ignores it, probably one of your extensions is overriding it. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Sometimes the ones with bland, reassuring names are the problem, so unless you know it to be valuable, disable. (If it's clearly garbage, remove.)

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?
