I have Firefox 62.0.3 one one PC. This takes a long time to load. Firefox takes longer than it used to, but then it takes around 20-30 seconds to load the Google home page. Once loaded, it all seems to work ok, but why does it take so long to load initially.

My other three PCs are still using v56.0. These load quickly and reliably. The new version is claimed to be quicker, but not happening for me.

I have stuck with the old version because I hate the tabs being at the top. To me this is the most stupid change ever. The tabs relate to the pages, so should be at the top of those pages, not above the menu lines which are relevant to all pages. When browsing any page, changing tabs requires the mouse pointer to move a longer distance. Why is this a good idea? With the old version I use Classic Theme Restorer to put the tabs back where they belong. Despite this being a popular add-on, suggesting many others don't appreciate the changes to follow Microsoft, no replacement seems to yet exist for this latest silliness.

Presentation seems to have become more important than functionality.

Why would I want to upgrade to the latest version if I have to wait a long time for it to load?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Strangely, after having this problem for weeks, today, after posting the issue, it seems to be loading faster, although the Google page still takes longer than the other three machines using v56.0

The information from the support page seems to be too long for a reply. Intriguingly, first time it said keep below 10,000 characters, and reported it to be 10,114 characters, including my reply above. Pasting it on its own, it has grown to 10,124. I'll split it into two bits.

Thanks

Oops! Forgot. In Safe Mode, Firefox loads more quickly, then so does the Google page.
