Color Management in FireFox 3.6.15 problems with Wide Gamut Monitor
I have a new HP LP2475w wide gamut monitor (with Spider3Express calibration performed) but am having a problem with getting color management to work for me on Firefox 3.6.15. From Adobe Photoshop CS2, I attach an sRGB profile before doing a 'save for web' and posting my images. However, on Firefox 3.6 (and also on IE8 WHICH HAS NO COLOR MANAGEMENT), I see the same significant color shift when I view the posted images. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN PHOTOSHOP SO THAT FIREFOX WILL RECOGNIZE THESE IMAGES AS sRGB AND DISPLAY THEM CORRECTLY? Thanks very much. Jeff

Can you post a link to such a misbehaving image?
You can set the pref gfx.color_management.mode to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.
You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

I've read the two links you supplied but I'm afraid they're beyond me. I presume Firefox 3.6 has color management on for "tagged" images on by default (I haven't changed anything), but if so, it's not recognizing that the image at the above link has an embedded sRGB profile. It's possible that Adobe Photoshop CS2 is not actually embedding one, although I do 'convert to profile' to do that before a 'save for web' to make the jpg.

That image doesn't have an embedded color profile, so if it doesn't display properly then Firefox most likely has a problem with the color profile of the monitor.
Did you try to set the pref gfx.color_management.mode to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management?
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a web page.

it tells me (if I understand it) that everything is working fine between the color management of Firefox and the hardware profile of the monitor that was created by Spyder3Express. I see all the images the same on the left.
If you say the image-in-question does NOT have an embedded profile, that seems to indicate to me that Photoshop CS2 is not embedding one, in spite of my procedure of "convert to profile" sRGB and then "save to web" as a jpg. Photoshop CS2 doesn't appear to have any OTHER way of saving as a jpg so maybe this ancient software is my problem.

ISSUE RESOLVED. Photoshop CS2 was not embedding an sRGB profile in the images I was posting. I needed to check the "ICC Profile" checkbox in "save for web" to make that actually happen (after I did "convert to profile" sRGB).
I also have switched to "Full Color Management" Value 1 (hidden) in Firefox 3.6 so that Firefox now assumes any untagged image is sRGB standard and then converts those, and all other images which ARE tagged, to my calibrated monitor profile. This definitely looks to me like the way to operate with a wide-gamut monitor although I understand it is still recommended to always tag images for posting as sRGB and not embed any other profile for color consistency over color accuracy. At least if there are some out there with wider-gamut tags, I should get some benefit.
